Product Updates – February 2021
Posted on |
What we've been up to behind the scenes.
We’ve been a busy bunch over here at OrderUp during the short month of February, doing everything we can to support our partner restaurants (as always).
While every restaurant is unique in itself, streamlining operations is one aspect that every owner and operator looks to achieve. That said, we take product feedback and requests super seriously, and are constantly working to make updates and features that meet our partners needs – no matter how unique they may be. Here are 4 major updates and features that we’ve implemented so far.
Printer Support
You asked, we answered! Chit printer integration is now here. Although many restaurants have gone fully digital with the OrderUp KDS, we know that chit printers are a must for some restaurants to communicate orders to the kitchen and bar.
Our KDS now talks to kitchen printers through Star Micronics!
How Our Chit Printer Support and Integration Works
When a food or drink order is placed from the guest’s mobile device, it gets sent to the KDS. Once a staff member confirms the order, It will be sent directly to the bar or kitchen printer.
This is particularly useful in cases where there may not be much extra space in a kitchen to have a digital screen. Also, some restaurants just prefer this method.
If you have any more questions or inquiries about printer support and integration, feel free to reach out to your Account Manager or send us an email: [email protected]
Sound Notifications
Many restaurants now have multiple ordering platforms and tablet-based Kitchen Display Systems (KDS’s) to manage take-out and delivery apps. To ensure you never miss an order with OrderUp, we’ve added a unique sound to help distinguish when a new order is placed (optional to enable). Custom produced in house, we’re confident that our notification sound will now be as pleasant as the dining experience itself! Let us know if we did a good job.
Countdown Timer
This one was requested from our partners over at Beavertails. For the folks down south of the border, Beavertails is a LEGENDARY Canadian QSR pastry-desert destination with over 140 locations. The pastries (that resemble beavertails) are deep-fried then topped with as little or as many toppings as you’d like. Often in high traffic areas, resort and festival destinations, a lineup isn’t uncommon for one to get their hands on these tasty treats. With an increase in contactless ordering & payments, it’s become increasingly important for them to be able to communicate to a customer how long their order will take.
Beavertails is using OrderUp to help solve this challenge for in-person contactless takeout orders. Now when guests place their order through our QR code enabled digital menus, a restaurant is able to set proper expectations for pickup time directly through the KDS. There is then a countdown timer on the guest’s phone giving an estimate of how long until their order is up (no pun intended).
This is a huge time-saver and game-changer for those operations with super high volume, and not a lot of space. Not only will it help the efficiency of the kitchen in prioritizing orders – but customers can relax instead of standing in line. Win-win!
Out of Stock (86 Items)
One of the benefits of using a QR code digital menu like ours is that it’s always up to date, and can be edited in real-time from your MenuBuilder merchant backend. We’ve created a simple toggle switch from the items page that allows restaurants to 86 and item. When turned on, your diner will automatically see the item marked “Temporarily out of stock” and greyed out on their menu screen. No more diner diner disappointment!
This is it for February. But we have a ton of new features, integrations and tools on the way. Are there any features that you’d like see in the future? Are there any integrations that could help your restaurant? If so – let us know.
